our story

Real Thai Street Food
Straight From Our Kitchen in Vancouver

How a Little Heat Turned Into a Whole Business

It started, like all good food stories do, in a tiny kitchen — one wok, a fridge full of Thai herbs, and a toddler named Jake running around in circles.

We’re Muay and James — partners in life, food, and spice. Muay’s from Thailand, where she grew up surrounded by the rich, bold flavors of Bangkok street food. James is Vancouver-born, but found his second home — and Muay — in Thailand.

In 2020,

during a year of quiet streets and home kitchens,
Muay began cooking the food she missed most: papaya salad with attitude, grilled meats dripping in marinade, curries that hug with heat. James? He tasted everything. Brutally. If a dish didn’t hit, he’d put the spoon down and just shake his head. No compromises. No “almost.” Not even for Muay. He’s the filter that keeps our food honest.

At first, it was just for friends. Then friends told friends.

Then strangers started asking,

“Where can I get that Shrimp Paste Fried Rice again?”

And that’s how
Call Me Jake Thai Food
was born

— in our home kitchen, named after the tiny human who kept reminding us to build something we love. Muay still crafts every recipe. James still keeps the bar high. And Jake? He still steals the last coconut rice ball when we’re not looking.
